Refereeing

The Volleyball England Beach Commission’s Referee Director has developed a formalised system for the improvement and advancement of English Beach Volleyball referees. This system will greatly enhance the knowledge base and skill of referees.

Chief Referee

To further players’ knowledge of the rules, the presence of a Chief Referee at each tournament is listed as a minimum requirement for all tournaments. The Chief Referee will:

  • Address the players at the Players’ Meeting at the start of each tournament outlining any rules which may have been of concern at previous events
  • Assess the safety of courts prior to the start of play
  • Deal with any rule disputes which arise in games
  • Provide feedback to referees
  • Conduct referee assessments
  • Assist the Tournament Director / Promoter with other playing issues which may arise

Additional Referees

All Appointed Referees on the VEBT will be VE Registered Grade 3 or higher Beach Referee. (The majority will be Grade 1).

Players who are a VE registered Grade 3 or higher Beach Referee, will be eligable to receive £5 for every match that they referee on the Volleyball England Beach Tour (VEBT) 2009, including when a team has duty.

Beach Seminars

There will be rules seminars held for players, coaches, etc held periodically throughout the season, potentially on a Friday or Saturday evening at tournaments. Attendance at one of these seminars is part of the eligibility requirements for participation in the VEBT Finals.

If you are a player and a VE registered Grade 4 Beach Referee you will not be required to complete the beach rules seminar that is an eligbility requirement for the VEBT Finals.
