Currently under development, due for release Spring 2008
The Volley Sport Award Scheme is based on the philosophy and content of the Volley Sport activity cards and as such it offers a unique holistic approach to developing players where traditionally other schemes have been exclusively skills based. It has been designed to assist teachers, coaches and players with introducing and developing volleyball with both the cards and the scheme linking closely to the standards and schemes of work of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2.
Each level of the award scheme has been specifically structured to encompass progressive elements of Acquiring & Developing, Selecting & Applying and Evaluating & Improving skills and tactics. With this in mind the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards are all based on the features that characterise successful game play and learners are rewarded for developing their understanding of tactics, teamwork and leadership as well as some of the more technical skills.
For those involved in curriculum delivery, each award provides an opportunity for evaluation in relation to the key attainment targets for physical education. Curriculum statements at levels 3,4 and 5 have been translated into Volleyball specific terms and provide the foundation for the outcome descriptors highlighted below. Each descriptor outlines what the teacher, coach and player can expect to observe and experience in terms of game play and forms the basis for a series of key outcomes to be achieved by the player at each level. Attainment of these outcomes is evidenced by demonstrating practical ability and understanding related to a number of sub-goals that may be delivered using the appropriate cards.
