Following a review of all aspects of junior Volleyball carried out in 2000 the Regional Talent Development Programme emerged with consultation with coaches across the country, with the following objectives:

• To have more young people taking part in Volleyball at all levels.
  
• To begin to recruit talented players at an earlier age.
  
• To put the main focus for talent development back in to the regions
  
• To develop a closer working relationship between all coaches working with junior players.
  
• To increase the number and quality of the coaches working with junior players.
  
• To have a strong and sustainable structure to support athletes on the performance ladder.
  
• To develop a balance between the coaching and competitive opportunities for young talented players.
  
• To ensure we get the best from our resources both human and financial.
