Talent identification is an important part of the Regional Talent Development Programme and coaches are encouraged to look for the potential in young Volleyball players. Some general indicators of talent in young players are that they:

• Have a multi-sport background
  
• Have a high degree of parental support
  
• Are high task orientated
  
• Are creative & adaptable
  
• Respond quickly to new challenges
  
• Take risks with ideas
