-  Provide resources for the coaches to take away with them around coaching Sitting Volleyball -  Increase the knowledge of coaches on working with disability athletes.

A Report from a recent Sitting Volleyball Awareness Workshop

As part of the Learning Revolution, on Sunday 18th October 23 people from across the country spent the day with Paralympic Bronze Medal Coach John Bestebroer from The Netherlands. The day was ran in Loughborough and was set out to raise the awareness of the sport of Sitting Volleyball as well as up skill the participants in all areas of the game.

The schedule was set out to take them through the various elements of the game from a coaches perspective which included sessions about Rules and their Interpretation from former WOVD International Referee Gordon Neale and International Competition Classification and Injuries, Jun Zing Zhang (Jamie).

John commented that "he was pleased with how the day went and it was nice to see such a range of people interested in the sport from standing volleyball players through to school teachers. I am honoured to be invited over to help develop the sport I love and look forward to see the developments ran by Volleyball England in the lead up to 2012.”

John has now moved on from the success he achieved in Holland and now runs a foundation aimed at developing Sitting Volleyball worldwide, namely SportCompass.

This workshop is just the first in what will hopefully be a succession of ‘Awareness Workshops’ ran by Volleyball England as Sitting Volleyball becomes more integrated with Volleyball. If you are interested in learning when the next one will be or if you are interested in running one and just looking for a tutor please e-mail m.rogers@volleyballengland.org to express an interest.
