Information For Schools

Sitting Volleyball is a great sport for use in schools whether it is a wet weather lesson or an inclusive sports day. The sport is very flexible and a variety of forms can be played with players either being sat on the floor, in a chair or a mix of the both.

Sitting Volleyball is fully incorparated into our National Competitions Framework at both Primary and Secondary level. Please click here for more information.

BUM BALL - A GAME FOR ALL!

Some basic rules you can apply are as follows:

  • Use a badminton court for the court markings.
  • Set the badminton net either at approximately 1m if sat on the floor or at normal badminton height if sat on chairs or wheelchairs.
  • Serve from behind the service line using an overhead two handed throw.
  • Have even teams, preferably 6v6.
  • The team has 3 catches (and must use a minimum of 2) to return the ball but you are now allowed to pass backwards.
  • The ball is allowed to bounce once during the teams 3 touches at any point.
  • Play to a total of 25 points or use time to control the length of matches.
  • Players rotate around clockwise taking it in turns to serve. The maximum a player can serve in a row before rotating is 3.

The aim is then to progress this very basic version of the game towards more conventional Sitting Volleyball as appropriate.

Some ways of doing this are:

  1. Replace the throw to serve with a normal Volleyball serve.
  2. Replace the middle contact (the second one) with a volleyball shot where the ball needs to rebound off the body.
  3. Enforce that the last of the contacts needs to be a hit.
