Sitting Volleyball Centres

Volleyball England recognises that it is crucially important to develop identified Sitting Centres that are spread across the county in order to give people the oppourtunity to play and enjoy the sport of Sitting Volleyball wherever they are based within England.

What is a Sitting Volleyball Centre?

Following the Audit undertaken in July and August we received over 27 returned forms from potential areas all looking to develop the sport. As you may or may not already know we are looking to develop 12 through the next strategic plan cycle 09-13. It has been decided to do this in two phases; 8 will be established immediately for the 2009-10 season and the remaining 4 in the following seasons.

A number of factors were used when looking at the identification of the centers including: Geography/positioning/accessibility, Population within drivable distance, Charities/groups involving individuals with GB potential, Workforce (including Community Development Coaches) and current Volleyball (preferably Sitting) activity (Club England Clubs/Accredited Clubs).

The aims of the project are as follows:

Each Centre will work closely with Volleyball England to deliver:
1. Establish a mixed group of able bodied and physically disabled individuals that is working towards training at least once a week.
2. Work with a nominated qualified coach who is committed to developing their understanding of Sitting Volleyball.
3. Run an equitable and integrated programme that recruits players with the potential to go on and represent Great Britain.
4. Be prepared to host and enter a team (containing a certain % of players with GB potential) into Volleyball England Sitting Volleyball National Competitions.

Volleyball England will support the Centre with the following:
1. A development grant.
2. Provide some Sitting Volleyball Posts, a net (and antennas) and a bag of balls.
3. Support a Personal Development Programme including workshops, resources and mentoring.
4. Develop Sitting Volleyball Referees in the surrounding area.
5. Write a Sitting Volleyball Center Development Plan.
6. Help with sourcing additional funding.
