CRB Checking

Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks assess who may be unsuitable to work with children within volleyball by looking at previous criminal convictions.
CRB checking plays a significant role in contributing to the safe and effective recruitment of volunteers. However, it must be stated that CRB checking is only part of an effective recruitment and selection process. It is important that clubs undertake references (forms available on the Downloads section) prior to employment/deployment and utilise ongoing performance appraisals.
There are three types of disclosure about an individual's background that the Criminal Records Bureau can make available on request.
- A criminal conviction certificate (basic disclosure)
- A criminal record certificate (standard disclosure)
- An enhanced criminal record certificate (enhanced disclosure)
Volleyball England insists upon the completion of enhanced disclosures. Ideally all volunteers working with young people on a regular basis should hold a valid CRB certificate.
All registered coaches and referees and members of affiliated volleyball clubs are entitled to apply for a CRB check through Volleyball England, free of charge. To obtain a CRB Disclosure Application Form please email us at info@volleyballengland.org or call 01509 227722.
