Designs confirmed for Indoor Beach Centre in Birmingham

Volleyball England can today reveal what the new home of English performance beach volleyball will look like.

Architect’s drawings depicting the four-court indoor centre at Birmingham City University (BCU) have now been completed, and building work will start immediately once final planning approval has been secured.

BCU has also provided some artistic impressions of the centre, showcasing the scale of the project with both the roof on and off the venue.

The site of the state-of-the-art facility will be Moor Lane, Holford (B6 7AA), with work expected to be completed by August or September.

It will host England’s National Performance Programme for Beach Volleyball, with the initial facility build and ongoing pathway development – made possible by significant investment from BCU, Volleyball England, Sport England and the FIVB, through its Empowerment Fund.

“We are delighted to be in a position where work is expected to start imminently after we have worked through some site complexities that have delayed the original timescale slightly,” said Chief Executive Charlie Ford.

“Seeing these images and having met with staff from BCU, who are equally excited about this project as we are, it really brings home what a seminal moment this is for beach volleyball in this country.

“In years gone by it’s been difficult to have a joined-up approach without a facility that can bring together our most talented players to train regularly, but that will soon now be a reality... and we can’t wait!”
