    Go Spike Student Activator Award

This is a new role created by Volleyball England aimed at increasing the number of 16+ playing recreational volleyball on a weekly/regular basis.  The Activator can run sessions anywhere at any time; leisure centre, beach courts, parks, at work, youth centres and community groups.  Where there is suitable space indoors or out volleyball can be played. An Activator engages people to play though challenges and adaptive games.

Who is the Activator Award for?
Are you enthusiastic and know how to interact with the non and semi-sporty 16+ market encouraging them to take on a new sporting challenge? Or are you currently playing or leading recreational volleyball and want new ideas?

If yes, then step forward.  Volleyball England will equip you with the volleyball skills to establish and lead the all new Go Spike Activator sessions which feature:

    • Flexible weekly session plan ideas
    • Adaptable challenges and games in a resource booklet
    • Guidance on how to lead groups of differing ability and size

What does the Award qualify you to do?

An Activator is not a coach but an individual who facilitates engaging challenges and adapted games.  You will only be qualified to run and lead Activator sessions for 16+ recreational participants.

The Activator ethos is about engaging people and not teaching technical and tactical aspects of the game.   The Activator role offers a taster into what leading a volleyball session may involve, Activators may choose to step on to the coaching pathway to undertake a UKCC Level 1 course

The course is a great CPD opportunity for existing coaches who wish to learn a different approach to running recreational sessions.  The Activator role can enhance a clubs community offer through providing a lower cost course to upskill workforce and offer a structure for recreational sessions that hasn’t before been available through Volleyball England

    What will you learn?

By the end of this course you should be able to:

    1. Facilitate and lead volleyball activity with participants new to volleyball – or those already playing recreationally
    2. Be able to enthuse people to build confidence, engage them and sustain their participation
    3. Work with the organiser/club/venue to set up and run regular sessions; meet and greet participants and provide a social and welcoming atmosphere
    4. Introduce volleyball shots and rules
    5. Choose appropriate practices, games and equipment according to the playing level of the participants

    What you receive
As part of the course fee, you will receive Go Spike Insurance, Activator resource and an equipment bag.
