UK School Games (Level 4)

The 2012 UK School Games will take place in London from the 6th - 9th of May 2012.
The Sainsbury's 2012 School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK's elite young athletes of school age. In this, its inaugural year, the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games is being held in the Olympic Park and other venues from 6-9 May to build on the excitement and inspirations of the 2012 Games.
The event will be the last to be held on the Olympic Park before the opening ceremony on 27 July with over 1,600 young sport stars taking part and over 35,000 spectators expected.
Volleyball is one of twelve current and future Olympic and Paralympic sports taking part alongside: fencing, rugby sevens, gymnastics, hockey, badminton, athletics, cycling, judo, swimming, table tennis and wheelchair basketball. The competition will be hosted at the ExCel Centre, which will also be the venue for the Paralympic Sitting Volleyball competition come games time.
Selection for the UKSG squads
Fourteen teams (boys and girls) representing England North, England Central, England South, Northern Ireland, Scotland East, Scotland West and Wales compete for the title of School Games Champions.
The age groups picked enable the training squads to sit just below the Junior National Teams and are in line with the CEV age competitions. The volleyball competitors are selected through the regional/national talent development programmes in each of the home nations. Players are identified to join these programmes after impressing in Level 3 School Games Competitions or playing for their school or club in the national junior championships run in each home nation.
For England and Wales, talent programmes are run by each Regional Association and these lead up to the Inter Regional Championships.
