Further education volleyball is one of the four key participation strands from the 2013-17 Volleyball England Strategic Plan. It represents a vast area of activity within volleyball whilst mainitaining a significant opportunity for growth. Below are the three main areas that Volleyball England engage with the further education sector.
Junior Academies have been established to extend the England Talent Pathway allowing talented athletes to continue to develop as Volleyball athletes whilst continuing with their education. There are 7 located within College and School hub's across the country.
AOC Sport (Association of Colleges Sport) are the governing body who administrate and run further education volleyball. In 2014/15 the volleyball competiton encompassed 65 indoor teams competing in male, female and mixed competitions
The Volleyball England further education offer reaches out to colleges looking to increase participation through a quick, in-expensive and targetted process. The 4 step process encompasses student workforce development, equipment packages, weekly sessions and inter-college festivals
College/6th Form Club Support
Every further education volleyball club is different, but there are certain ideas and development tips which can be implemented anywhere to ensure a strong and well developed club. GROWTH IN PARTICIPATION
The Volleyball England Further Education Offer provides a great opportunity for your college/6th form to increase participation. The programme encompasses a four stages of development as follows:
The Go Spike Student Activator Award is a resource designed to empower students to deliver recreational volleyball and increase participation by peer delivery. The Award encompasses warm ups, adapted games, challenges and tournament organisation.
DEVELOPING YOUR WORKFORCE
Volleyball England provide a suite of coaching and referee courses designed to enhance the performance and functionality of your clubs as below:
Coach Development - Ranging from the Go Spike Activator Award to Level 3 coaching qualifications
Referee Development - The entry level Grade 4 Referee Course equips students or staff with the skill set to officiate in AOC Sport competition and recreational matches
AOC Sport - 65 teams competing indoor throughout the academic year
Indoor Student Cup - one of the biggest indoor student volleyball competitions in the UK. All affiliated universities and colleges offering credited rated courses are eligible for entry.
Beach Student Cup - the largest student beach volleyball event in the country with over 200 students taking part across the weekend
