BCS Cup & Plate Finals 2012

On Wednesday 25th April the BCS National Volleyball Cup & Plate Finals were held at the National Volleyball Centre inKettering.

Students travelled from all over the country to compete in the mixed cup, men’s & women’s plate and the men’s and women’s cup. The standard of the competition was very high throughout the day, and each game was a well fought competitive match

The overall results of the finals were:

Mixed cup:

Winner: Newcastle Under Lyme

Runner up: TauntonCollege

Women’s plate:

Winners: Peter Symonds College

Runners up: St Thomas More Catholic College

Men’s plate:

Winners: Paston 6th form college

Runners Up: TelfordCollege

Women’s cup:

Winners: Salford College

Runners Up: South Thames College

Men’s cup:

Winners: Newcastle Under Lyme

Runners Up: Barton Peveril

Further Education Volleyball

Recent research in England shows that volleyball is growing, with nearly 50% of colleges offering volleyball activity. With the 2012 Olympic Games just around the corner, what better time to introduce or develop volleyball within your college.

Volleyball England works closely with British Colleges Sport (BCS) to deliver a competitive and structured competition programme.

The BCS membership fee includes affiliation to Volleyball England and entry into a number of high profile competitions. Please see a full list of all competitions available to colleges in the document dowloads in the right hand column.

Volleyball England offers a wide variety of resources for students to develop

These include the Young Leaders Award which is cost effective and simple to run. This courses is ideal for student volleyball and provides great development for students on sport/ leadership related courses.

A list of resource packs are available to purchase for £50 and any Level 2 coach or teacher can deliver the 6 hour courses. Please see the rescource packs document on the right hand column.

Volleyball England aim to support teachers in enhancing and developing their knowledge of the game. There are resources available to purchase which will assist in the coaching and development of volleyball, including our super mini- volley pack and also Volley cards can be purchased from our online store to help support teachers with drills and exercises- http://www.volleyballengland.org/Shop.php

Volleyball England also currently run ‘mini module’ courses, which supports and enhances teachers knowledge of volleyball. These courses are usually 3-4 hours long and are only £25-£30pp- to find out more please contact Zoe Hughes
