Boulton and Johns Surprise All

13th August 2011

Last night, in front of a packed stadium, the GB pair wowed the fans by beating Canada's Bansley and Maloney in 2 sets. Both teams were up for the challenge as they matched each other point for point with the first set ending 26-24.
The second set was much the same going right to the wire and finishing 22-20.
If that wasn't excitement enough, this afternoon Boultz and DJ as they are known to their friends, took out the Chinese team of Xue and Zhang Xi in the quarter finals.
The girls went into this match very much the underdogs as the Chinese pair, who are currently ranked fourth in the world, were the hot favourites. China never got more than a point or more in front as they were matched all the way by GB in the first set. Johns gave the crowd an amazing display of accurate spiking, taking the advantage to win the set, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
The second set was like watching an action replay of the first, almost point for point but Boulton's incredible insight and communication with Johns was awe-inspiring as they placed the ball cross court to catch China off guard and build their lead. At match point China put the ball into the net and GB won the game to the delight of the home crowd.
The match finished 2-0 (21-19, 21-18) leaving Boulton and Johns preparing for tomorrow's semi-finals against the Kessy and Ross from the USA.
Next up are Mullins and Dampney against Lili and Vieira of Brazil.
