Fantastic Freda Recognised For Contribution to Volleyball

Ashcombe Volleyball Club are pleased to announce that Club Founder and Current Club Secretary Freda Bussey has been awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List on Saturday.
Freda founded Ashcombe Volleyball club in 1976 whilst a PE teacher at The Ashcombe School and the club has grown to the thriving hub of Volleyball it is today, producing teams at every level and all forms of the game and providing many players who have gone on to play for England and Great Britain.
As well as her many roles within the Ashcombe club , Freda has been involved in the wider sport in this country in a plethora of different fields at county, regional and national level including as a part of the management team for Beach Volleyball at London 2012, as well as previously captaining the England national team on numerous occasions.
Freda is the 4th English Volleyballer to be recognised for services to Volleyball following in the footsteps of Dr Don Anthony, Richard Callicott and Gordon Neale.
Freda said 'It's been tough keeping it a secret for the past 6 weeks and I feel truly honoured, Volleyball is such a great sport and it’s been a privilege to meet so many wonderful people over the years.'

The award of MBE is truly deserved and applauded by the club and recognises her tenacity, enthusiasm and lifelong dedication as player, coach, organiser and supporter. '
June is Ashcombe Volleyball Clubs ’30 Days of Volleyball’ with the remaining events a come and try it session in Dorking Park on June 25th and the Ashcombe Volleyball Tournament at the Dorking Rugby Club on June 29th and 30 featuring outdoor competition for all ages and abilities.
