Former GB Player Appointed as Performance Coach

The University of Essex has appointed former International volleyball player Alex Porter as Performance Coach.

His appointment forms part of a growing investment by the University of Essex in performance sport including three volleyball scholarships this year alone.

A former England and Great Britain player, Alex has also played for professional clubs in Sweden, Austria and Holland. He coached the England South Boys team for the last three years winning two Gold Medals and one Silver medal in the UK School Games. Alex has also worked as a commentator and during the 2012 London Olympic was part of the BBC’s team covering volleyball.

Alex will work with the men’s and women’s volleyball performance teams as part of an athlete-focused programme alongside the University’s strength and conditioning coach, Sport Science department, Human Performance Unit, Colchester Physiotherapy Clinic, Lifestyle Advisors and Academic Mentors, offering players the opportunity to develop and excel at their sport while studying for a degree at a world class university.

Sports scholarships at the University are highly sought after, and more information on how to apply can be found at
