Winning start for England at the School Games
31st August 2017
The 2017 School Games at Loughborough University kicked off with four matches taking place on the opening day, which saw three England teams in action. Wales came out in full force taking over the stands with flags and fans, Northern Ireland had their chants, and England had their wins. Volleyball was back.

England Cadet Men were the first team to win a match in the 2017 Games with a confident 2-0 win over Wales Boys. The team pulled out strong leads in both sets showing their dominance at the service line and net forcing the errors from Wales.
Wales Girls put the pressure on the England Junior Women during their match but England were eventual winners after a gritty 2-0 win. The first set was plain sailing for the Juniors creating a big lead from the service line. Wales fought back in the second, and saved two match points but it was too little too late as they lost 25-21.
England Cadet Women had a strong 2-0 win against Scotland West to ensure the three England teams in action on the opening day registered a win. Their success was largely down to their super serving, putting the Scottish Girls under-pressure from the first whistle. Scotland gained confidence and calmed their nerves but it wasn’t enough to overcome the current School Game Champions.
Northern Ireland fought hard against the Scotland West Boys but fell just short in a 2-0 loss to open their 2017 campaign. Hard hitting at the net wasn’t enough to overcome a strong Scottish Team as they mounted the pressure with few unforced errors.
