Juniors reach National Cup Finals Weekend
27th March 2018
Richmond Volleyball Club are on course for a clean sweep of the junior titles at this year’s National Cup Finals weekend.
The Richmond men and women’s under 18 teams both secured final berths in Under 18 National Championships at the weekend. The women defeated Boswells 2-1 in their semi-final, while the Richmond men also overcame Boswells in their semi-final, by a 2-0 scoreline.
That meant there will be a Richmond team in every junior final at the Cup Finals weekend on April 14 and 15, as their under 16 boys and girls also reached the finals in the U16 National Championships.
To win any of the titles though will be a huge challenge as Richmond are set to face some quality opponents.
The line-ups in the both the women’s U16 and U18 finals will see Richmond face Tameside. The North West giants of junior volleyball, Tameside, ensured their place in the U18 final at the weekend by defeating Beach Academy in straight sets. Tameside girls U16s had already made sure they would be at Finals day by downing Urmston Grammar in the semi-final.
Richmond will also face the same club in both of their men’s under 16 and under 18 finals – EBC Greenhouse.
In the Under 18 competition, EBC came from a set down to clinch victory over Newburn - who enjoyed their highest finish in the competition for 10 years - at the weekend and book their final spot. While the EBC Under 16 had eased past Black Country A 2-0 to make the National Final too.
The line-ups for the junior finals at the National Cup Finals are now complete:
