London Aces claim Men's Shield
14th April 2018
After losing out in last year's Shield Final, London Aces have finally got the Shield after bouncing back to win it this year.
The Aces showed no signs of nerves and made an excellent start against Polska Przychodnia Intervolley Manchester. Aces got ahead and kept Intervolley at arms length to take the first set 25-20.
With a set under their belt, Aces were finding their rhythm and took control of the match by winning the second set 25-18.
Intervolley were playing their part in a really competitive game and were determind to not let Aces have it all their own way. The men from the North West dug very deep, winning key points and taking several attempts to seal the set to win the third set 28-26.
At 2-1, it was a test of nerve for both sides. Aces banished any idea of surrending a two-set lead and got back on the front foot. They were ahead at the business end of the set, giving themselves several opportunities to seal it. That they did to win the set 25-21 and take home the title.
Ace's Russell Watson put in a captain's performance and was named as the MVP of the final.
