Richmond boys are U16 champions

In a battle of the London Rivalries it was Richmond Boy's that came out on top with an emphatic 3-1 win against the ever determined EBC Greenhouse.

The first set saw Richmond take the lead early on with a strong team performance, led by super setter, Enrique Bello. But it was Ernest Bevin College that came out on top clinching the set 25-21.

In the second, Richmond bounced back to take an early lead against their London counterparts, reducing their unforced errors and plucking away at the Greenhouse serve receive unit. Strong serving from Justin Magtibay helped to extend their lead from the second technical timeout and open a seven-point gap. Big hitting through the middle from MVP Jonathan Drysdale-Anderson pushed Richmond to level the scores and take the set 25-17.

Captain Nasir Khan lead the fightback from the service line to give EBC Greenhouse the advantage going into the first technical timeout. Greenhouse kept Drysdale-Anderson’s attack blocked out of the set with successful three man blocks formed from Xuan Nguyen, Matthew Burnett and Axel Alabi. Richmond kept their cool at the business end in the set to claw back for a 25-23 set win.

Taking confidence from a 2-1 lead, Richmond opened a four-point gap with string hitting putting the EBC defence under pressure. Greenhouse svaed three match points but Richmond converted fourth time of asking with a perfectly placed tip, taking the set and match 25-20.
