Northumbria men take Super 8 title

Northumbria were in the driving seat going into the final match of the season, just three sets away from the League Finals Title. IBB Polonia were here in full force, both on and off court, to cause an upset and stop Northumbria from completing the Triple Crown in the 2017/18 season.

Team Northumbria pulled out a big lead through strong hitting from Andy Clayton, and England captain Adam Bradbury. IBB Polonia pulled back with strong serve receive and defence but couldn’t convert on the attack, falling short 25-17.

Dan Starkey meant business as he gave Northumbria the lead early in the second set with four top spin aces to take the score to 13-10. This lead was extended through unforced errors on the Polonia side struggling in their passing unit. They soon found themselves one match, and 2-0 down in the League Finals.

Despite the best efforts from Dorian Poinc in defense, Northumbria ran out victorious with a big presence at the net in the form of Clayton. Bradbury lead the team to a comfortable 25-12 victory over their London Rivals.

Team Northumbria completed the Triple with a BUCS Title, Cup Finals and League Title – the ninth in their programme history.

The MVP was Team Northumbria's was Andy Clayton.
