England squads announced for NEVZA U19 Championships

The England squads for this weekend’s NEVZA U19 Championships have been announced.

The tournament which runs from Friday to Sunday at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering and will see England Volleyball compete against Denmark, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Tickets are still available from the Volleyball England shop at a discounted rate until Thursday at 7pm, after which full price tickets will be available on the door.

After winning a bronze medal last year, men’s U19 head coach Darren Lewis has picked an experienced squad as the junior side look to go one better and make the final this time round. The line-up includes lots of players from last year’s squad including Ben Lucas, Freddie Bialokoz, Daniel Thompson. Samuel Marsh and fresh from the Youth Olympic Games, Javier and Joaquin Bello. The squad also includes players who have graduated from the under 17 squad and have NEVZA experience at that level.

The Men’s U19 full squad: Adam Ketley, Ben Lucas, Daniel Thompson, Edward Stephenson, Noah Goalen, James Ledbury, Freddie Bialokoz, Javier Bello, Joaquin Bello, Samuel Marsh, Jonathan Drysdale Anderson, Ali Ahmed.

The men will kick off their championships on Friday against Iceland at 15:30pm.

The women narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in 2017 and have also got a strong squad for this tournament. Head coach Paul Welsh’s final line-up includes quality players who were part of the squad last time out including Georgia McGovern, Holly Bentley, Ellie Austin, Anna Keefe, Leah Blight, Saskia Freitas Schoeffel.

The Women’s U19 full squad: Anna Keefe, Ellie Austin, Georgia McGovern, Holly Bentley, Lauren Cadwgan, Leah Blight, Maddie Wood, Martha Bullen, Saskia Freitas Schoeffel, Alice Brand, Katie Keefe and Remi Knight.

The women will play their opening match against Iceland at 13:30 on Friday.
