GB sitting team take positives from Copenhagen Sitting Cup

The Great Britain women’s sitting volleyball team competed in the prestigious Copenhagen Sitting Cup at the weekend.

A mix of international and club teams the annual competition is a brilliant opportunity to experience high quality competition and build a stronger intersitting volleyball community.

The Great Britain women were winless but there were lots of positives to take from the tournament, as the programme continues to rebuild.

There was an international debut for Kate Cooper as she joined the Great Britain squad for the first time. While there was some silverware for the team as Great Britain sitting volleyball stalwart Vicky Widdup took home the MVP award for the competition.

Great Britain faced excellent teams from Finland, Estonia and Hamburg before the competition reached the knockout stages.

There were compliments for the team as the host team Lavia Copenhagen reflected that the Great Britain team had improved significantly since last year.

There was also fantastic representation from Great Britain’s officials, as Steve Smith had the honour of being the second referee in the final, which saw Canada defeat Norway to take the gold.
