Sitting Volleyball Futures

SV futures 1

The British Sitting Volleyball Futures programme is our first world class talent ID programme, supported by Sport England.

We’re looking to identify talented athletes to join our programme, individuals with the physical and psychological characteristics required to succeed at the highest level.

Athletes with potential will be developed through the sitting volleyball club environments, in national development groups and in the Great Britain squads.

The programme is linked to the Volleyball England Futures programme which is seeking to identify talented athletes for indoor and beach volleyball. Both programmes are underpinned by scientific research from the University of Essex and Sheffield Hallam University and have been developed by experts from within the disciplines.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for people who:

  • Have a desire to be the best they can be and commit to an international programme
  • Are aged under 40-years-old
  • Have a British passport or are likely to have one within two years
  • Have a physical disability or impairment that could be eligible to compete internationally*
  • Ideally have some previous sporting experience

* At international level, players must have some level of physical disability, including but not exclusively amputation, reduced range of motion or function in joints, weakness in joints or limbs, Cerebral Palsy or Spina Bifida. Please contact Rich Stacey-Chapman for more information.

Local Events

As part of the programme there are a number of local events which will give people the opportunity to try the sport and be involved in some basic testing. These are often multi-sport events, either open to the public or particular groups.

We don't currently have any events scheduled but we are always interested in attending or organsing sessions so please contact Rich Stacey-Chapman if you have something we could get involved with.

National Events

The Sitting Volleyball Futures events will give people the opportunity to take part in a range of testing to see if they have the potential to progress within the GB Sitting Volleyball pathway.

During the day athletes will be assessed on a number of different elements to assist the talent identification process. These tests will include:

  • Physical Profile
  • Fitness
  • Sitting Volleyball activities
  • Basic medical and health classification
  • Psychological

Athletes who are selected through the process will then be invited to join a development group and signposted to local clubs. Everyone who attends will be given information about how they can continue to play the sport.

We don't currently have any events scheduled but we are always interested in new talent so if you are keen to get involved then please contact Rich Stacey-Chapman
