Venues and Schedules
The Olympic Games returns to London, UK for the first time since 1948 from July 27 to August 12, 2012 as the capital city prepares to host the four-yearly sporting extravaganza. Volleyball will be a leading sport at the Game with indoor, beach and sitting competitions.
Volleyball
Earls Court is in west London, close to the Victoria and Albert, Science and Natural History Museums. It first opened its doors in 1937, at the time providing an unprecedented 40,000 square metres of exhibition space.
In 2012, Earls Court will be transformed into a spectacular Volleyball arena ready for the Games. The Volleyball competition will be held in Earls Court.
The tournament will run start on the 28 July and run for 16 days in total, finishing on August 12 with the men's gold medal final. 12 teams will compete in each of the men's and women's editions with a total of 288 athletes taking part.
Beach Volleyball
During the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Beach Volleyball competition will take place on the Prime Minister’s doorstep at Horse Guards Parade. The parade ground lies at the heart of London’s ceremonial life, and hosts the Trooping of the Colour event that takes place on the Queen’s official birthday each year.
A temporary arena will be built for the Olympic beach volleyball competition for 15,000 spectators, with sand brought in to create London’s very own 'beach’
Siiting Volleyball
ExceL is an existing exhibition and conference centre in London's Docklands. Its five arenas will host a range of Olympic and Paralympic sports during the London 2012 Games including Sitting Volleyball
Action begins from 30 August to the 8 September 2012. In total 198 athletes will take part (110 men, 88 women; 10 men's teams and 8 women's teams).
