England in action at NEVZA Under 17 Champs
17th October 2017
England's future generation of stars are gaining vital international experiene as they compete in the North European Volleyball Zonal Association (NEVZA) Under 17 Championships in Denmark.
The girls got their campaign underway yesterday as they faced Norway and Denmark in group games. Their opening match against Norway was a thrilling encounter which ended in heartbreak. Having twice held the lead, Norway pegged them back to two sets all and force a deciding set. England got themselves into a great position but failed to convert two match points as Norway fought back to steal victory. While disappointment is inevitable, the girls can be very proud of their performance. Norway were the favourites going into the game and the young English stars matched them in every department.
After that titanic clash, the England girls were back on court just hours later against the hosts. Denmark won in straight sets as England's earlier efforts seem to have taken their toll. The girls will be aiming to notch their first victory against Faroe Islands at 12pm (GMT) today as secure a place in the quarter finals.
Being in the pool of three, England boys had a day off yesterday and play both of their group games today. They kick off against Iceland and will be on court at the same time as their female counterparts at 12pm (GMT). The focus will then be on recovery as the England boys will be back on court at 6.30pm as they face off against Finland.
