Teams battle it out in Sitting Volleyball Cup and Shield

There was knockout action as teams fought it out in the Sitting Volleyball Cup and Shield at the weekend.

Ten teams descended on the National Volleyball Centre for a full day of action and for a shot at silverware.

The Cup holders Sheffield VC were at their imperious best as they defended their title and lifted the Sitting Volleyball Cup once again. Having won the Grand Prix and Cup last year, the team from the steel city could make it another historic double as they are also in the final of the Grand Prix again this year. They will face East London Lynx at the National Cup Finals weekend on April 27th and 28th. You can make a great saving on tickets when you book in advance.

Sheffield defeated Lincoln Imps in straight sets in the final, after earlier defeating the GB women 2-1 in the semi-final and City of Salford in the quarter-final. Despite having to settle for silver, it was an impressive performance from Lincoln Imps who defeated Loughborough Fusion in the quarters and recorded an excellent victory over H4H in the semi-final.

The third-place playoff was a brilliant game as H4H defeated GB women over five sets.

Teams that were knocked out before the semi-final stage of the Cup went into the Shield for a second shot of glory.

Loughborough Fusion were victorious taking the trophy as they overcame South Hants in the Shield final. The first two sets were shared before Fusion stepped it up a gear to control the next two sets to take the title.

The pair had defeated Essex Pirates and City of Salford in the semis, and it was the Pirates who took third place with a straight sets victory against their north-west counterparts.
