Team Northumbria win Men's National Cup
14th April 2018
Team Northumbria won the Men's National Cup defeating IBB Polonia London in straight sets.
It meant that Northumbria did the double as on Saturday which saw both Northumbria men's and women's team secure national cup glory.
IBB Polonia were the reigning champions and showed their experience as they took the early initiative. They took control early on and got into the lead. Team Northumbria never panicked though and worked their way back into the first set. The North East men clawed themselves level at 13-13 and then took the lead for the first time in the match.
Overhauling the deficit seemed to inspire Northumbria with captain Adam Bradbury constantly cajoling his team mates and leading the charge. Things were tight at the business end of the set but it was a jubilant Northumbria who drew first blood 25-23.
The second set was another tight affair but Northumbria just seemed to hold the edge over their Super 8s rivals. Bradbury was well backed up by Jenkinson, Kingstad and Scott and they forced the second set by the same scoreline 25-23.
Polonia never stopped competing and trying to fight back. In the deciding set, Northumbria missed several match points as Polonia refused to lay down. The final set went to the wire but eventually Northumbria took their opportunity to cause jubilant scenes as they won the set 27-25 and secured the Men's National Cup.
In the presentation, captain Adam Bradbury was also deservedly named MVP.
