Tendring storm to Men's Shield victory

Tendring are the Men's Shield champions 2019 after a dominant display against Nasze UK Intervolley Manchester.

The Essex side made a ferocious start. Colton Smethurst's serve was causing Manchester problems while Vorderer and Gagner were an imposing presence at the net. When it was Gagner's turn to serve his side won an impressive run of seven unanswered points to take a 15-3 point lead. Dove, Vorderer and Gagner continued to score and Tendring blitzed their way to the opening set 25-8.

Credit to Intervolley, in the second set they kept reining Tendring back in and managed to get to the business end of a set at just two points down at 21-23. Tendring were not going to be caught though and added the second 25-22.

Marc McLaughlin sent down some blistering serves as Tendring established a 4-0 at the start of the third. Sonny Chaney was a colossus in the block and rained down some unstoppable spikes. Tendring extended the gap as the set wore on as Intervolley had given maximum effort to go toe-to-toe with the brilliant Tendring. Jake Guempel had the final word as Tendring won the third set 25-16.

Intervolley are to be commended on giving it everything but Tendring were at a different level in the final and deservedly lifted the Shield.

MVP was Tendring's MVP Sonny Chaney. For full match stats, click here.
