GB Sitting teams
The current GB sitting team can trace it roots back to 2005 when it was announced that London had won the right to stage the 2012 Paralympics.
As a result, the search began to find players to represent GB on that stage - and the team has been going strong ever since.
The beginnings of competitive international sitting volleyball
Sitting Volleyball is a Paralympic sport played by six players, similarly to indoor volleyball.
It was invented in the Netherlands in 1965. In Arnhem 1980, men’s sitting volleyball was introduced to the Paralympic Games set-up. The women’s game debuted in Athens in 2004.
Since competing at London 2012 both men’s and women’s teams have entered various European and world competitions.
At International level, players are classified into two classifications Vs2 (minor impairments) and Vs1 (major Impairments), with just two Vs2 players allowed in the squad.
