As the most prestigious competitions for young players, the Volleyball England Junior National Championships are a season highlight for volleyball’s next generation.
They also give youngsters of all experiences a taste of competitive volleyball. With early rounds welcoming teams of novice ability and the best teams fighting it out to play on the big stage at the Nationals Cup Finals weekend.
Entries are now open for the U16 and U18 competitions and teams must register before the deadline of Friday 11th October 2019 to be part of these excellent competitions, while entries for the U15 competitions will close on Friday 7th December. Teams secretaries need to enter their teams using VolleyZone and there is a tutorial video to show you how on the Competitions VolleyZone Guides section.
As Volleyball England aims to protect the sustainability of these great competitions, from this season all junior players will need to complete a Junior Player Registration to be eligible to compete. There is a tutorial video showing how to complete Junior Player Registration, which teams are encouraged to share with their players and their guardians.
Inspiration for next generation
“Volleyball England’s Junior Competitions are quite unique,” says Jonathan Moore. “They are the pinnacle for young players, with the best players getting the chance to reach the showcase of the National Cup Finals weekend. But the early rounds also give any young player of any ability a chance to become inspired through a taste of competitive volleyball. In the current format, the Junior Competitions cater for all young players.”
Each competition features a preliminary round which teams of any ability are encouraged to enter. Travel is also reduced as much as possible and it is contested in a round robin format, so teams get multiple matches.
Teams that progress into rounds 1 and 2, which are also based regionally and hosted by entrant teams, will then look to advance to the last 8s. This sees the best sides head to the National Volleyball Centre to battle it out in the quarter-finals and semi-finals to see which two teams will earn the right to play the final on Cup Finals day.
You can find out more information about the dates, format and entry of the competitions on Under 15 National Championships, Under 16 National Championships and the Under 18 National Championships pages.
