Bellos claim another British Title

The Bellos produce a flawless weekend at the UKBT Grand Slam Finals in Bournemouth to claim another British Championships title.

Javier and Joaquin Bello added yet another medal to their impressive collection with a dominant 2-0 victory over Harry Jones and Dalton Bunde in the UKBT Grand Slam Finals on Sunday in Bournemouth.

The brothers set the tone early, powering through the group stage without dropping a set, first overcoming Gavin McCaughern and Lewis Fenech, before sweeping Jan-Joost van den Bogert and Haydn Lawson.

That form carried them straight into the quarter-finals, where they faced Tom Lycett and Conor Robins. Robins’ trademark skyball serve tested the Bellos in the blustery conditions, but the twins kept their composure and sealed another 2-0 win.

Next came fellow Londoners Ivo Dobra and Endi Ymeraj, who pushed hard but couldn’t halt the Bellos’ momentum. The brothers marched into the final still unbeaten.

The last hurdle was the in-form duo of Jones and Bunde, Weymouth Grand Slam silver medallists and London Open champions. But experience proved decisive as the Bellos delivered one final straight-sets victory to secure the title.

The win marked Javier’s fourth and Joaquin’s fifth UKBT crown, before they jet off to Brazil for their next international challenge at the Elite 16 in João Pessoa.

In the women’s competition, Abby Russle and Anna Rantala stunned defending champions Julia Tokarenko and Maria Sviridova in a thrilling three-set final to claim the 2025 British title.

Tokarenko and Sviridova looked strong throughout the pools, going unbeaten, while Russle and Rantala bounced back from an opening loss to Best/Palmer with key victories over Ferretti/Takenaka and Berštautaitė/Tussis to book their place in the knockouts.

Russle and Rantala then powered past Kurek/Fiļa in the quarter-finals before overturning their pool defeat to Best/Palmer with a clutch semi-final win.

That set up an all-SideOut showdown in the final. Tokarenko and Sviridova struck first, taking the opening set, but Russle and Rantala roared back with two powerful sets to clinch the gold and deny Sviridova back-to-back titles.
