How to Find Assignments

Volleyball England registered referees can use the mechanisms below to support them in finding referee assignments and maintaining active deployment.

Referee Assignments for newly qualified referees

Newly qualified referees and those looking to gain further experience are encouraged to develop their skills by refereeing at local, county and regional competitions. 

Use the Volleyball England Club Finder to identify clubs in your area and obtain their contact details. Reach out to offer your services as a referee in their local, county and regional leagues. Click here to find how to contact your region.

Referee Assignments within the National Volleyball League (NVL), Volleyball England and UK Beach Tour (UKBT) Competitions

Assignments for the NVL, Sitting Grand Prix, UKBT Competitions and other Volleyball England competitions are managed through VolleyZone by a team of referee appointers.

Referees wishing to be considered for assignments to these competitions are encouraged to complete the steps outlined below.

 
Ensure you are registered as a referee 

Click here for guidance on how to renew your referee membership with an existing or new club. 

Complete the location preference form 

Referees wishing to be considered for NVL assignments are asked to complete the form here during the pre season period. This enables you to indicate the locations where you are willings to officiate within a 70 mile radius of your home address. 

Update your unavailability within VolleyZone

Assignments are made on a rolling basis up to five weeks in advance. To avoid being appointed on dates when you are unavailable, ensure that any periods of unavailability are recorded before assignments are made.

If you have access to a smartphone, you can also download the 'Sportlomo Game Management' app to manage your unavailability and assignments. 

When you recieve an assignment

You will recieve an email notification. Please respond to this in a timely manner. The appointment will then show within your VolleyZone Referee Login.

Referee Assignments within the British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Competitions

BUCS are responsible for delivering competitive sport within higher education settings in the UK with volleyball fixtures typically taking place on Wednesdays. 

Use the Volleyball England Club Finder to identify affiliated universities in your area that participate in BUCS volleyball competitions and obtain their contact details. Contact them to express your interest in supporting their fixtures as a referee.

Many universities also participate in local league competitions, providing additional opportunities to develop you refereeing skills.
