Referee Appointments for London 2012
9th February 2012
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and World Organisation Volleyball for Disabled (WOVD) has announced the list of referees who have been appointed to officiate at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London later this year.
A total of 20 referees representing twenty different nationalities will officiate at the volleyball competition. This includes Brian McDougall from Scotland and one of four British International referees competing for the one home nation spot.
It will be the first time at the Olympic Games, all five continents will be represented in the 16 beach volleyball appointments. Two of England’s top volleyball officials, Damien Searle, and Greg Thompson will be representing Great Britain in the beach volleyball. For Searle, who also officiated at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, this will be his second assignments as a referee, whilst Thompson will be attending his first Games as a referee.
For the Paralympic Games it was Dee Wauchope and Glynn Archibald whose nomination was approved unanimously by the WOVD Board of administration to represent Great Britain in Sitting Volleyball.
Everyone at Volleyball England would like to congratulate Brian, Damien, Greg, Dee and Glynn on their selection and wish them well in their preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games. This is a fantastic achievement and a great honour to represent the host nation.
