Sitting World Champs Update

It was a tough start for the GB Women at the 2014 Sitting Volleyball World Championship when they faced Paralympic silver medallists, USA, in one of the first games of the day.

The USA dominated for much of the game, with early service runs in all 3 sets giving them unassailable leads. Once into the sets the women showed that for spells they were able to compete with a side who will once again expect to at least make the final.

There were good individual performances during the game with some big hitting from Jodi Hill and Vicky Widdup as well as strong blocking from the whole team.

The match also saw an international Debut for Danielle Hampson-Carroll (Inset) who showed why coach Ian Legrand had put his faith in her with a good all round performance.

The starting 6 for GB was:

  • Martine Wright (Captain)
  • Vicky Widdup
  • Claire Harvey
  • Jodi Hill
  • Helen Sole
  • Danielle Hampson-Carroll

The squad have trained well since the game and are looking to build on the positives as they take on Slovenia at 4.30pm BST today. You can watch the game live at or follow all the action on the @GBSittingVball twitter account.
