New Partner for Sitting Volleyball
16th March 2015
Volleyball England and the British Volleyball Federation are delighted to announce a Corporate Social Responsibility relationship with financial protection specialist Unum for 2015 to help support Sitting Volleyball programmes.
Lisa Wainwright, Chief Executive of Volleyball England said of the relationship: “We are delighted to have Unum supporting our Sitting Volleyball activities. As a Corporate Social Responsibility donation to the Volleyball England Foundation, we will be working closely with Unum to provide a range of staff engagement and volunteering opportunities across our sport, in return for invaluable financial support to Sitting Volleyball. As one of the most inclusive and fun sports around, with multiple disciplines, we are positive we will be able to provide fantastic opportunities for Unum’s staff”.
Alla Main, President of the British Volleyball Federation added, “With Unum’s UK headquarters in Dorking , close to the Sitting Volleyball Elite Programme training base at Ashcombe Volleyball Centre, it is a great opportunity to develop mutually beneficial programmes between Unum and our exciting, multifaceted and inclusive sport. Unum employees will be able to get to know our athletes with their remarkable personal stories that demonstrate the power of sport in combatting physical and psychological disabilities and conditions, and will have volunteering opportunities with the sport and the local volleyball community. This partnership will be a significant help to our men’s and women’s Sitting Volleyball teams, who are at a critical stage of qualification for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. It will allow our athletes to have extra training sessions and to participate in international tournaments that can improve their chances of qualifying for Rio and to build for Tokyo 2020.”
John Letizia, Head of Public Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility at Unum added, “I am very pleased Unum is able to support Volleyball England and the British Volleyball Federation’s Sitting Volleyball Programmes in 2015. Sitting volleyball is one of the most inclusive and fast-growing sports not only in the UK but also across the world. The partnership will not only see Unum employees involved in a number of related volunteering activities but also provide financial support to help the men and women national teams to secure sufficient funding in their attempt to qualify for the Rio Paralympics in 2016 and build a strong sustainable foundation for Tokyo in 2020”
