England Young Seniors in first International action
17th August 2015
For the first time since before the 2012 Olympics, Volleyball England has an England Young Seniors Men Team in International action, traveling to Holland to face Dutch Champions, Landstede.
The final England Young Senior camp of this summer came to a close this past weekend at the National Volleyball Centre, with some of the top male and female athletes in the country training for selection. The England Young Seniors have been reinstated this summer with a series of camps, which have been hosted by our Senior Academies, University of Essex and Northumbria University as well as the National Volleyball Centre, Kettering.
Audrey Cooper, Technical and Talent Director “It has been a successful summer and fantastic to see talent that exists at young senior level, from experienced athletes as well as athletes coming through junior programmes. The bar has now been set for the operation of squads and expectations going forward into next year. The Men now have a fantastic opportunity to face professional opposition and benchmark against some of the best volleyball athletes in Europe“
The camps have been a great success in reigniting the England Young Senior programmes, the reinstatement of the Young Senior squads wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Sport England and TASS. Their commitment to the development of young talented volleyball athletes is greatly appreciated by Volleyball England
The team is delighted to be travelling to Holland and to take part in a series of matches against Dutch champions, Landstede Volleybal. The coaching team comes from our talented coach’s pool, with Alex Porter and David Goodchild as lead coaches, supported by Olympian and Women’s London 2012 GB coach Audrey Cooper, along with physio and statistician support.
The squad is in Holland until Friday this week and will play a series of matches throughout the week. Updates and scores will be posted on the Volleyball England twitter page @VballEngland
