U-16 National Championships finalists confirmed

Beach Academy and Boswells A will contest this year’s U-16 girl’s National Championships Final while New Forest and EBC Greenhouse will fight it out in  the U-16 boys’ final. These finalists were confirmed after an excellent day of high quality junior volleyball at the National Volleyball Centre (NVC) last weekend.

The finals will be played on Sunday April 2nd as part of the National Cup Finals weekend at the NVC in Kettering.

After Boswells A qualified comfortably for the semi-finals by recording straight set victories in all their pool matches, they faced off against a strong Ashfield Vipers side. Boswells A edged a closely fought 1st set 25-22 but their superiority then showed in the 2nd as they won 25-10 to take the match 2-0 and reach the U-16 final for the first time.

The other girl’s semi-final pitted Tameside against Beach Academy in what was a repeat of last year’s U-16 final. Having won their qualifying group, Beach Academy started strongly with a 25-15 1st set win. Tameside rallied in the 2nd but it wasn’t enough to prevent Beach Academy recording a 25-22 victory to take the match 2-0.

Looking to emulate their female counterparts were Boswells B in the boys’ competition. In their semi-final, they were up against a New Forest team who had their sights set on making their first ever final. New Forest started the brighter of the two and took the 1st set 25-12. The team from Essex squared it all up with a 25-16 2nd set win but it was New Forest who clinched a place in the final with a 15-11 win in the deciding set.

The other boy’s semi-final saw EBC Greenhouse up against Wessex. EBC Greenhouse came into the match undefeated in the group stages but they faced a Wessex team who were looking to make it through to yet another junior final, having tasted plenty of success in this competition over the past few seasons. On this occasion, EBC Greenhouse were just too strong, triumphing 2-0 (25-16, 25-18) to earn the right to face New Forest in the final.
