Membership numbers on the rise

Membership to Volleyball England is on the up.

Affiliations for the 2018/19 season launched at the start of August and the membership package for this season has been really well received. The number of registered clubs, coaches and officials for 2018/19 are all higher than they were after the first month of last year’s affiliations.

The number of affiliated clubs for this season was 129 at the end of August, up from 121 teams at the end August 2017. While the number of referees has soared by nearly a third on last year, with 224 officials registered after the first month, whereas there were just 152 after the first month of membership in 2017/18.

The number of coaches has seen an even more incredible rise. There were already 359 registered coaches this season at the end of August, compared to just 112 at the same point last year.

The rise is partly down to the huge success of the Volleyball England Level 1 Introduction to Coaching Volleyball course. Learners who pass the course receive complimentary membership for the season. The revamped level one, which launched at the start of the year, has been very popular with the volleyball community, with 121 qualifying and receiving free membership. However, even without these free memberships, the number of coaches would still be over double compared after one month of the membership offering last year.

“It’s fantastic to see that the 2018/19 membership has been so well received so far,” says Rob Payne, Core Market Co-ordinator and lead on membership. “At the HUB, we have worked to develop the membership packages and communicate the value and benefits of affiliation more effectively to clubs, officials and coaches.

“This season is part of Volleyball England’s ongoing commitment to developing the membership package and the way it supports the delivery of volleyball at all levels. With more members, the more we can all work together to drive the sport forward. So, I hope to see more clubs, coaches and officials register for this year.”

Underlining this commitment to improving how it serves the membership, is that Volleyball England have made Junior Club Membership free for this year, as it looks to work closer with those who are inspiring the next generation of volleyball players.
