The last remaining final spots

The Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix final promises to be a thriller after a final between familiar foes was sealed at the weekend. Reigning champions Sheffield Volleyball Club overcame South Hants in a keenly fought contest. After winning the opener, Sheffield were surprisingly pegged back in the next to level the match. That only seemed to fire up the champions and they overpowered Hants to remain on course to defend their title.

They will face the other powerhouse of the sport, who they defeated in an epic five-set match in last year’s final, East London Lynx. The team from the capital went the distance to defeat Help for Heroes 15-8 in the decisive set. Lynx will be hoping to erase last year’s heartbreak and reclaim a title that has regularly been theirs over the years.

The weekend also saw the players who will be youngest to grace volleyball’s biggest stage earn their place in the finals.

In the boys U15 final, Richmond A didn’t even drop a single set as they become the fifth Richmond team to make it to finals day. Their opponents will be Boswells A, who edged out EBC Greenhouse in a hard-fought semi-final.

Urmston Grammar will meet Richmond A in the girls U15 semi-finals. Having played out a tense game in the last 8s, both teams progressed to the semi-finals where they secured safe passage, relatively comfortably to the final. So it has the makings of another great final when the girls face each other again in April.
