Richmond do the double in the Under 15 championships

Richmond Volleyball underlined their reputation for producing brilliant young players by winning both the Girls' and Boys' Under 15 National Cups. 

In the Girls competition, Richmond faced cup final debutants Urmston Grammar. The team from the North West showed no nerves and with the first set delicately poised at 15-15, Urmston found another gear and surged to the opening set 25-17. 

In response, Richmond girls took control in the middle of a must-win second set, with the Under 15 final being a best of 3 sets match. They established a five-point cushion at 15-10 but the rest of the set wasn't straight forward. Urmston saved a succession of set points to make it 24-24, but Richmond nipped the comeback in the bud to take the second set 26-24. 

The momentum was well and truly with Richmond now and they raised their performance even further to dominate the deciding set. Richmond raced into a lead that they never relinquished and took the third and decisive set 15-8. Richmond girls had dug deep against a talented and spirited Urmston team. Richmond put in an accomplished display to seal the title to jubilant scenes. 

Nina Erminio was picked as MVP and as captain picked up the trophy on behalf her victorious team. For the full match stats click here

Boys U15 Final

The Richmond boys faced a fellow powerhouse of junior volleyball, Boswells School. The first set saw the teams share blows and the scoreline remained even until the middle of the opener. From 16-16, Richmond upped their play to dominate and added 8 points to Boswells 3, to gain the upper hand at 24-19. The first set was then sealed at the second time of asking as Richmond notched it 25-20. 

With the title in their sights, the Richmond boys were at their scintillating best dominating from early on to power into a 16-6 lead. Boswells were trying to fight but couldn't keep pace with the team from the capital. Richmond etched the second and decisive set 25-12. 

Richmond captain Enrique Bello had the honour of lifting the trophy and capped off a brilliant day by being named MVP too. For the full match stats click here
