Durham take Women's National Cup!

Durham Palatinates defeated Team Northumbria in straight sets to win the Women's National Cup 2019.
The first set was always going to be crucial and Durham had to dig very deep to win it. After an even start, Northumbria wrestled control at the business end of the first set. They got into a 24-21 lead but squandered the four set points and it was Durham who notched it 26-24.
Buoyed by stealing the first set, Durham really hit their groove in the second. They opened up a lead and kept Northumbria at arms length. Bruna Bon hit a winner to seal the second set 25-21. Durham continued to control the match in the third with captain Maria Genitsaridi scoring well, and well supported in the kills department by Bon and Cunningham.
Durham reached the business end of the set first and lined-up a succession of match and championship points at 24-19. When Askin's spike could only be deflected out of court by Northumbria's block, Durham Palatinates took the set 25-20 - and landed themselves the Women's National Cup.
Northumbria played their part in an entertaining final but it was Durham's day as they became the Women's National Cup champions.
