Great Britain in Copenhagen Sitting Volleyball Cup
31st October 2019
Great Britain women’s sitting volleyball team are heading to Copenhagen this weekend to play in a renowned competition.
Originating in 1995, the Copenhagen Sitting Cup sees a combination of international and club sitting volleyball teams battle it out. This year, nine teams from eight different countries (including Estonia, Czech Republic, Norway, Canada, Germany, Finland, Denmark and Great Britain) will be aiming to put their name on this notable trophy.
The competition is organised by Lavia Copenhagen sitting volleyball club, which visited England last season to compete in the Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix. Their coach Lykke Christensen, who is also the coach of the Danish Invictus team, spoke to Volleyball England about how they enjoyed playing in the Grand Prix and the importance of sitting volleyball teams creating links across the continent.
The tournament is a brilliant opportunity for Great Britain as they continue to build up the programme, after many dormant years. Following the European Championships, it gives the GB ladies another competition to build their team and gain more experience of competing on the international stage.
Head Coach Ian Legrand has picked his squad to take to Copenhagen:
