Polonia Ladies take silver at NEVZA Club Champs
18th November 2019
The 2019 Women’s NEVZA Club Championships came to Surrey at the weekend and Polonia Ladies VC achieved a brilliant silver medal as they flew the flag for England.
Over three days of action, six teams battled it out for the coveted European title which attracts excellent teams from the North European zone. Polonia faced off against two teams from Denmark and three from Norway.
The Super League team powered into the final but were edged out for the trophy in five sets by Brondby VK. To win a silver medal in NEVZA competition was a superb achievement for an English women’s club, as well as seeing England host another international volleyball event.
In the final, Polonia were on the wrong end of the five-setter and had led two sets to one. Brondby overturned the deficit to level the match and in the final set, Brondby who are currently 3rd in the Danish league, won it 15-9.
It was a brilliant final and Brondby deserve a lot of credit as Polonia had already defeated them in the pool stage. Polonia will be proud of a silver medal on home soil and it marked a brilliant achievement for English volleyball, as the ladies silver followed the Polonia men's team taking gold in the NEVZA Club Championships last year.

With entry to spectators free for the whole weekend, there was lots of brilliant volleyball for fans to enjoy. The bronze medal match was also another superb five set match that swung like a pendulum between the teams.
It was Norway’s ToppVolley Norge that gained the last step on the podium as they twice came from behind to take bronze 15-10 in the fifth set. Fifth place went to Randaberg VK, while Oslo Volleyball finished sixth.
