Annual Awards: Golden prize for new trick shot champion

Nominations have now opened for Volleyball England’s 2020 Annual Awards – and, for this year, there’s a special new category to enter.

Inspired by the community’s creative home workouts and drills during lockdown, athletes will be able to send in videos of their very best trick shots for the chance to win a golden volleyball.

You could be setting 2 volleyballs at once or landing an audacious dig into a bucket, the only limit to The Golden Trick Shot challenge is your imagination.

Beginning on the 13th May, nominations have also opened for 10 other categories in Volleyball England’s Annual Awards, which celebrate those who help to deliver and develop volleyball, beach volleyball and sitting volleyball.

Volunteers are the beating heart of the sport and this long-standing community event has become a key moment of reflection and celebration each year.

Why not make the most of this extended period of downtime to help us to recognise volleyball’s unsung grassroots heroes?

How does the Annual Awards process work?

First of all, if you’re submitting an entry make sure it’s as detailed as can be as the awards will be judged by some people who are not familiar with the volleyball community.

After the nomination deadline, an independent judging panel will sift through all of the entries to form a 3-person shortlist for each category.

The winners will then be announced at the end of July. Details on the presentation and logistics of this announcement are yet to be confirmed, but each winner will receive a trophy.

How will the Golden Trick Shot champion be decided?

To enter, players must either share a link to the video as part of a nomination or send an email to with “Golden Trick Shot” in the subject and a copy of the video attached. This is the only category for which email nominations can be accepted. Entries must include the name of the individual or team in the video and state which club they are representing.

Once the deadline has passed, judges will whittle the entries down to a shortlist of 3. A winner will be decided by a public vote.

Golden Trick Shot rules:

  • The trick shot must involve volleyball skills
  • It must have been recorded during the period of lockdown (Since 23rd March)
  • The video can be up to 15 seconds long
  • The nominee/s must be part of an affiliated volleyball club
  • Nominess must only share videos with Volleyball England that they own the copyright to. Please note videos submitted into this category may be used for promotional purposes.
