Sport England extends Return to Play grant support for clubs
29th January 2021
Sport England has extended its Return to Play: Small Grant programme, giving volleyball clubs up until 30th June 2021, to apply for funding.
Launched in October, the scheme was set up to make awards of between £300 and £10,000 to help sport and activity groups, clubs and organisations respond to the immediate challenges of returning to play in a Covid-safe way. Initially there was £10 million in the fund, but Sport England has recently injected an extra £5 million.
Challenges that the fund helps to address include costs incurred by having to deliver activity in smaller groups than normal andthe cost of hygiene and safety equipment. Funding can also be used to cover the cost of minor amendments to facilities, additional sports equipment, signage, sanitation and training courses to help with the safe delivery of sport and physical activity.
As a result of the new lockdown, Sport England has made a number of changes to bolster the programme, including extending the programme, adding more money into the pot and giving award recipients greater flexibility.
Wessex Volleyball Club is one sport club that has successfully applied for grant support. Dave Gunter, Chairperson, said: “The process was straightforward and not too time-consuming, however, as with any application, it is important to read the funding criteria.
“We received support to cover additional court hire costs because we now have to limit the groups sizes in sessions, and for cleaning equipment. In total, we were awarded £1,000.”
Volleyball England’s membership team is on hand to help any affiliate volleyball clubs to apply for funding support. If that applies to you, please contact the team via email@example.com.
