Proposal to shakeup format of national junior competitions

A proposal put forward by the Competitions Working Group promises to improve the quality of our national age-group competitions while creating more competitive matchups for juniors.

The plan is to replace the previous knockout cup-style format with a league system. Because of future uncertainties as to how Covid will impact competitions, the first step of the plan is to move to a grand prix style event for 2021/22 before introducing a full league structure the season after.

Feedback from our junior competitions consultation and the innovation debate, The Next Big Idea, has helped to shape this new-look competition format for U15s, U16s and U18s.

Rob Payne, Strategic Manager (An Ace Service) oversees the delivery of Volleyball England competitions. He said: “Thank you to everyone who has engaged with the consultation process. We have taken onboard lots of feedback and believe we have created an exciting new competition format for our juniors that balances playing opportunity with cost and travel. I would encourage junior teams to please read our proposal in full and once more share their feedback.”

Feedback should be sent to competitions@volleyballengland.org by 11:59pm on Friday, 14th May.
