Brilliant bronze for Team Bello

Javier and Joaquin Bello achieved another major win over the weekend, claiming the well-earned bronze medal in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.

This triumph comes only a matter of weeks after their last big win, where they made history by achieving a gold medal in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour in Cortegaça, Portugal.

The final 2021 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1-star events took place from the 16th-19th September. Team Bello attended the event in Nijmegen. Whilst teammates Isabelle Tucker and Anaya Evans attended the women’s only event in Madrid, Spain.

Bagging the bronze

Team Bello began the competition in Nijmegen on the 17th of September in Pool A of the main draw. For their first match, they came up against Appelgren/Herrmann from Sweden, who they beat 2-1 (20-22, 21-14, 15-9). The brothers second match against Boermans/Van Der Loo of The Netherlands resulted in another 2-1 win (12-21, 21-14, 16-14). This success took the team through to the quarterfinals on the 18th of September.

Javier and Joaquin played a strong game against French team Canet/Rotar for their quarterfinal, which they won 2-1 (14-21, 21-15, 15-8), taking them through to the next round.

The team’s semifinal game knocked them back, but not completely off track. It was their only loss of the competition, 0-2 (16-21, 14-21) against the eventual winners, team Evans/Field of the USA. This game led them to their final match, competing for third place.

The fight for the bronze medal took place on the 18th of September against Austrian pair, Schnetzer/Hörl. Javier and Joaquin’s determination and hard work came to fruition as they beat their opponents 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-11).

Team Bello’s fantastic final at Nijmegen can be watched back on the CEV YouTube Channel.

After another hugely successful competition, Javier and Joaquin Bello are ranked 75th in the world by the FIVB.
