Selection Tournament: who will represent England at B2022?

English beach volleyball fans will finally find out who they will be cheering on at Birmingham 2022 as the country’s most talented athletes compete for the chance to represent Team England.

As the host nation, England automatically qualifies for the 12-team tournament at the Commonwealth Games, which takes between 28th July and 8th August 2022.

In May 2022, England’s top five ranked men’s and women’s teams on the UKBT will face off in separate Commonwealth Games Selection Tournaments to decide who will lead the medal charge at next year’s home Games.

To spice up the competition, a wild card entry may also be awarded in both tournaments – if a wildcard isn’t chosen, the sixth highest ranked teams will be added into the competition.

While the location of this showcase has not yet been finalised, it will take place between 26th and 30th May 2022.

The Tournament will consist of a pool stage consisting of three teams per pool, with the 1st place team proceeding into the semi directly. 2nd and 3rd place teams will play a single quarter-final tie to progress to the semi-finals. Semi- finals and finals will consist of a best-of-three match series. The first team to win two matches during the final series will be nominated as the team to compete at Birmingham 2022.
