Covid-19 update: recommendations unchanged plus NVL returns

With further information on the new Covid-19 variant emerging over the festive period, teams in the National Volleyball League will no longer be given greater freedom to postpone matches.

Before Christmas, we took the extraordinary step of temporarily allowing NVL teams to postpone their fixtures on the weekend of 18th and 19th December. This was influenced by feedback from members and the rapidly developing and uncertain situation before the festive break.

This was a tough call, but one we stand by as it allowed participants to travel and spend time with their loved ones without worrying about picking up Covid-19, and isolating, ahead of the Christmas break.

However, this was a temporary decision. NVL regulations, supported by the Covid Addendum, have now been re-instated in full. These only allow for matches to be postponed in exceptional circumstances and with the approval of the relevant Competitions Working Group Lead to ensure we can play a full season.

Regardless of the setting, the Volleyball Family is still encouraged to follow a set of Covid-19 safety recommendations while playing the game to help keep each other safe. We will continue to monitor the situation and Government guidance and release further updates as required.
