The Nations Cup Selection Board has selected England's senior teams and reserves for the 2023 CEV Beach Volley Nations Cup.
The CEV Beach Volley Nations Cup is an international competition contested by senior male and female national teams from across Europe. The inaugural tournament was held last year (2022), where Norway's men and Switzerland's women claimed gold in their respective competitions.
The format involves a preliminary phase, which sees nations competing in pools to earn their place in the competition finals. The winner of each pool qualifies for the 2023 CEV Beach Volley Nations Cup Finals which will be held later this year.
The 2023 & 2024 competitions will also provide a route for European Olympic Qualification; with the top three finishers from each gender in the 2023 Nations Cup Finals awarded a place at the 2024 Nations Cup Finals, where the winning nations (one per gender) will secure a spot at Paris 2024.
Each nation, in both Men's and Women's competitions, is represented by two pairs. Fixtures between countries are made up of two matches, with one pair competing in each match. In the event of split victories across the two matches, a golden set will determine the winner of each encounter.
England Men, who will face Pool A fixtures against Norway, Estonia, Slovakia and Bulgaria in Norway, will be represented by Javier Bello & Joaquin Bello (Pair One) and Issa Batrane & Freddie Bialokoz (Pair Two), with Harry Jones and Niko Gleed selected as reserves.
England Women, who face Pool D fixtures against Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia in Hungary, will be represented by Anaya Evans & Daisy Mumby (Pair One) and Isabelle Tucker & Katie Keefe (Pair Two), with Jessica Grimson selected as a reserve.
Athletes were chosen based on a detailed selection criteria, which included:
- Previous experiences at national and international level
- Current FIVB/CEV entry ranking points
- Commitment level in the previous six months
- Long-term commitment to future rounds of the Nations Cup, Paris 2024, and beyond
England's Men will begin their CEV Beach Volley Nations Cup campaign in Norway on 6-8 June, whilst the Women's team will travel to Hungary for matches on the 10-11 June.
